Update

Dear Valued Members,

We write to inform you with heavy hearts that our team
Union Active Union Strong were not successful in being elected for the CWU election 2023.

It has been an incredibly stressful time trying to run a campaign with virtually no resources, little funds and time. We all ran this campaign around our gruelling work hours and gave up many weekends either calling members, designing  and writing the copy for the mail outs, creating this website and trying to get our message out there- to the members, who we believe are not getting the best service from our current union leadership.

Decline in membership should be a testimony to how much member’s confidence has fallen in recent years and a lot of people have either resigned from Auspost during the past few years of Covid hell or ceased their union membership. Unfortunately, lapsed financial members would not get a chance to vote and CHANGE the union, because only financial members get to exercise their democratic right to vote.

The fact that only 42% of eligible members voted is very disappointing, and indictive of the apathy and unhappiness with the current incumbents.

We tried to reach out to members- but remember, there’s another 58% of members who did not even bother to vote– which in our minds, is a wasted opportunity for change.

Let’s be clear:

We did not have right of entry to workplaces to campaign.

We did not lie or embellish our years of service, our experience or accomplishments.

We did not run a smear campaign.

What we lacked for in experience, we made up for in eagerness to fight for better outcomes and conditions for postal workers.

We are the true rank and filers- we are a bunch of postal workers who stuck our necks out to fight for change and the right to represent our members and bring back the unity in our workplaces.

No backstabbing. No lies. No bullshit.

We were of no allusion that this would be a monumental battle.

We put up a lot of our own money, called in favours from designers, printers, work colleagues to help us call up members, we spoke to other Union organisers and delegates to get this campaign off the ground.

A lot of members we spoke to were angry and fed up with their
current situations.

They felt unrepresented and helpless.

We listened and took note of all the issues.

We hoped to be the team to get over the line and take up the fight for all these people.

But alas, it was not to be.

To all the members who bothered to vote and assign an X against our team members names on the ballots we thank you- from the bottom of our (broken) hearts.

Sincerely, The Union Active team
